Looks like The Postal Service isn’t the only Benjamin Gibbard project that gets to celebrate turning ten. Following the 10th anniversary reissue of The Postal Service’s debut album “Give Up“, Death Cab for Cutie will reissue their breakthrough studio album “Transatlanticism” on October 29th for the album’s 10th anniversary. Record distributor Barsuk will be releasing the album on vinyl and digitally. The reissue is set to include bonus download codes of unreleased demos, titled “Transatlanticism Demos“. This demo album can also be purchased separately digitally.
Death Cab for Cutie will be performing Transatlanticism in its entirety at the Bumbershoot Music Festival in Seattle, WA this weekend (September 1st).
Pre-order the double LP at Barsuk Records and be sure to check out Death Cab for Cutie at Bumbershoot this weekend if you can make it.
Opinion Time: After hearing Transatlanticism for the first time I nearly broke down in tears. This album is a pure masterpiece. Easily one of my top 5 albums I’ve ever heard and I’m so happy to see it getting a re-release with unheard demos. I am a fan of music in general but there are some albums that speak to you in ways that others just can’t and never will. This is one of those albums for me, it’s relatable, its’ production is on point, the talent is there, and it (in my honest opinion) is the crown jewel of Death Cab for Cutie’s current discography. This is debatable, many would probably disagree, but no one can deny Ben Gibbard’s masterful songwriting and portrayal of beauty that is Transatlanticism.
